The Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant encourages positive achievement by helping to nurture and build the scholastic achievements, creative accomplishments, healthy living and community involvement of young Labrador women ages 13 - 17.
The Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant provides young Labrador women the opportunity to further their personal and professional goals by expressing their viewpoints on issues that are important to them and relevant to the Labrador region.
Miss Teen Labrador Achievement is an official preliminary pageant to the Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program, where the winner will compete at the provincial level for thousands of dollars in scholarships!
Miss Teen Labrador Achievement will become a role model and voice for young people in Labrador and travel to as many festivals, events, charitable fundraisers, conferences and speaking engagements as possible within the region.
In addition to the title of Miss Teen Labrador Achievement, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up, there are two individual awards: The Provincial Airlines Teen Spirit Award - which is voted on by the contestants themselves, and presented to the person whom they believe has, in the spirit of friendship and competition, best exemplifies a desire to be a good example for others. The second award is the Kristen Parsons Public Relations Award - this cash scholarship is presented to the contestant who scores the highest in the public speaking portion of the competition. Kristen Parsons is an exceptional young woman who made Labrador proud when in 2002, she was crowned Miss Teen Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2007, she was crowned Miss Canada Scholarship. Kristen is a strong believer in promoting the achievements of young women and is delighted to have this award named in her honor.
SCORING SYSTEM
50% - Interview: This will be conducted panel style, three judges. The pageant committee will develop a series of seven (7) questions to be asked to each contestant, prior to the beginning of the pageant. Each of the questions will be worth 6 marks each, with up to an additional 8 marks to be given to each contestant for overall impression.
5% - On-Stage Introduction/Poise/Stage Presence: This will be where the contestants announce their name, age, school and town. They will be judged on personality, poise, articulation, tone, pitch, and emotion. Contestants will not be judged on what they wear, rather on how well they present themselves. Judging will be based on stage presence, poise, and confidence expressed on stage.
5% - Evening Wear: All gowns must be floor-length but contestants will wear the gown of their personal choice. They will be judged on poise, confidence, and grace.
15% - Impromptu Question: Contestants will respond to two final questions based on information provided in their pageant applications.
The contestant receiving the highest overall score in the competition will be named Miss Teen Labrador Achievement.
