What are the benefits of being a contestant in the Miss Teen Labrador Pageant?

By taking part in the Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant, contestants will have the opportunity to meet other outstanding teens, they will build confidence, meet educational goals, build character, win prizes, and chance of representing the region at the Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program, where they will compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships.

Is Miss Teen Labrador Achievement a "beauty pageant"?

No! At Miss Teen Labrador Achievement we want to provide young women with a positive enriching experience. It is our goal to build self-confidence and reward you for your scholastic and community achievements.

What is the judging criteria?

Our qualified judging panels will score contestants based on the following criteria:

• 50% Interview
• 5% On-stage Introduction and Poise
• 5% Evening Gown
• 25% Platform Statement
• 15% Impromptu Question

     The contestant achieving the highest total score will be named Miss Teen Labrador Achievement.

What is a platform?

The platform concept requires each contestant to choose an issue to speak on which is important to her, and which is of relevance to the Labrador region.  The winner of the Miss Teen Labrador Achievement title, will where possible, speak on issues relating to her platform, to generate awareness, when addressing youth organizations, community service groups, festivals and charitable fundraisers, and other events.

Is there an entry fee?

Yes.  The entry fee for the Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant is $75. 

Why is there an entrance fee?

There is an entrance fee for the Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant because this is a not-for-profit organization, and we will be sending our winner to the provincial Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program, which costs $300. Money raised from entry fees is also used to help cover ths cost of running the pageant itself.

Who can apply to the Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant?

You can apply to the Miss Teen Labrador Achievement Pageant if you are between the ages of 13 and 17, of good moral character and live in Labrador.

Can I get a sponsor to pay the entrance fee for me?

Yes! We realize that events like this cost money and we are more than happy to accept payment from contestant sponsors. If you need or want a sponsor or have trouble thinking of one in your area, do not hesitate to contact the pageant committee and we will try our best to help you find a sponsor for your pageant fee.

On the day of the pageant you will need to bring your chosen outfits: evening wear, interview suit, some comfortable clothing for rehearsals, hair supplies, make-up, as well as shoes and accessories needed for your chosen outfits. Snacks and meals will be provided.

Are travel and accommodations provided?

Regretfully, travel and accommodations are not provided for contestants who reside outside the Labrador West region. This cost will be at your own expense, or you may wish to obtains sponsors.

What happens once I win?

If chosen as Miss Teen Labrador Achievement, the pageant committee will work with you to help you make appearances at any functions you would like to attend in our area/region. These appearances could be anything from giving speeches in your school, to attending festivals, fundraisers, parades, etc. You will also be entered in the Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program, where you will compete against other regional winners and other teens accepted into the program for scholarships and the title of Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador.

If I win the title of Miss Teen Labrador, will it interfere with school?

No! We make school the number one priority! As Miss Teen Labrador Achievement you can have a busy year. It is totally up to you. We will work with you to make it a memorable year and schedule as many appearances as possible based on your availability.
